Paul Allen is interested in photographs as forms of knowledge, experience, and expression. The work collected here represents some of the self initiated projects produced over 25 years of image making.
He is a Visiting Tutor of photographic theory and practice at Arts University Bournemouth, and was the Director of Contextual Studies for the School of Visual Communication at Birmingham City University.
He studied documentary photography (doc phot) at Newport and visual sociology at Goldsmiths College.
In his spare time he drums, badly, playing mostly rock and improv, and recently released a CD, as a member of Gerauschhersteller, of a full recording of Cornelius Cardew’s Treastise: https://gerauschhersteller.bandcamp.com/releases
He currently lives in Somerset.
